Vimmi, Tech Mahindra Joint Solution Receives Funding From BIRD

Companies develop breakthrough media delivery network that enhances mobile video transport experience

Vimmi Communications, a mobile video delivery innovator, and Tech Mahindra Technologies, a global provider of networking technology solutions and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tech Mahindra, today announced that their strategic partnership to develop and implement an advanced media delivery network (MDN) for mobile operators, has been awarded funding from the BIRD Foundation.

The Binational Industrial Research and Development Foundation or BIRD Foundation encourages and facilitates cooperation between the U.S. and Israeli companies in a wide range of technology areas and offers funding to selected projects. During the last 39 years of its operations, BIRD has approved over 900 projects.

"Multi Access Edge Computing is an emerging standard that helps mobile operators to meet the growing consumer demand for economical, high-quality video experiences. By integrating Vimmi's video-aware Mobile Delivery Network with our Radio Network Information Service analytics, we are able to deliver a breakthrough service in mobile video transport performance,

Peeyush Goyal, Sr, Vice President, Network Services, Tech Mahindra.

Mobile video traffic is forecast to grow by around 55 per cent annually through 2021. This has put huge challenge before the mobile operators to cope up with the enormous volumes which has necessitated them to look for a scalable solution to deliver high-quality and immersive video experiences.

Vimmi and Tech Mahindra’s MDN solution offers mobile operators cloud-computing capabilities and an IT service environment based on Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) standard. By deploying video services at the radio edge in close proximity with mobile users, MEC enables the deployment of a powerful video delivery infrastructure for mobile networks. The joint solution features Vimmi’s Video-aware Mobile Delivery Network (MDN) and Dynamic Content Distribution algorithm using machine learning, and Tech Mahindra’s Radio Network Information Service (RNIS) analytics. The solution reduces 70 - 90% of mobile backhaul traffic while improving the quality of experience. It also reduces Round Trip Time (the time required for a signal pulse or packet to travel from a specific source to a specific destination and back again) for video and IoT applications achieving 5G performance targets in 4G networks.

“Multi Access Edge Computing is an emerging standard that helps mobile operators to meet the growing consumer demand for economical, high-quality video experiences. By integrating Vimmi’s video-aware Mobile Delivery Network with our Radio Network Information Service analytics, we are able to deliver a breakthrough service in mobile video transport performance,” said Peeyush Goyal, Sr. Vice President, Network Services, Tech Mahindra.

Commenting on the funding by Bird Foundation and the strategic partnership, Vimmi’s Founder, and Co-CEO Eitan Koter said, “We’re excited about winning this prestigious award from the Bird Foundation. Our collaboration with Tech Mahindra enables us to bring to market cutting-edge solutions that feature the highest possible video delivery efficiency and video performance at highly competitive pricing.”

See it in action at MWC17

The MEC-based solution will be showcased at the upcoming Mobile World Congress at Barcelona, Spain, scheduled for February 27 – March 2, 2017. The demonstration will be held at Vimmi’s booth at Hall #5, D81. To schedule your personal demo click here or send an email to info@vimmi.net.

About VIMMI

Launched in 2011, Vimmi, a fast growing company with an established client base, created a disruptive video Content Delivery Network (CDN) technology. Vimmi CDN was designed on the basis that current network infrastructures are not sufficient to support the massive global online consumption of video, without compromising on video quality. Vimmi solves this issue through our proprietary grid computing and machine learning technologies, which uses the edge of the network to dramatically reduce the bandwidth and infrastructure required to view video online, but without compromising on video quality. Vimmi's solution, developed over years, analyses each consumers’ service requests and makes smart decisions based on algorithms that recommends best content pre-position, caching and streaming with the primary intention to improve video performance and reduce cost.
